It was business before pleasure for Ponteland pupils as they took part in a Careers Fair ahead of their summer holiday.

A total of 25 businesses and outside agencies set up stalls at Ponteland High School for the event earlier this month.

More than 600 youngsters attended the fair, which was an integral element of the school’s Enterprise Week for Years 9, 10 and 12.

Year 8 pupils from Ponteland Middle and Richard Coates were also invited to take part and get an insight into currently available and future careers.

Ponteland High Headteacher Kieran McGrane said: “Thanks to the support of our external partners we are confident that this will help link progression pathways and careers with school subject areas and to showcase the range of post-16 and post-18 options available.

“All external partners planned an interactive way of engaging the young people in their field or business and the response was excellent.

“This will reinforce the qualities and skills required of employees in the 21st century and provide young people with an understanding of the local, regional and national labour market.”

The stallholders included Art Portfolio Graphic Design, Barclays Bank, Bibby Offshore, Benfield Audi, Children North East, Faulkner Brown Architects, Hilton Hotel, Henry’s Hut, Mark This, Newcastle College, Northumbria Police, Northumbria University, Northumberland County Council, the RNLI, Tynedale Hospice and Waitrose.
