A MORPETH school has joined a group that aims to sign and sing their way to a new world record.
Pupils at Stobhillgate First School will be participating in the event, which has been organised by SignHealth, on February 8 next year.
Chief Executive of the national healthcare charity for Deaf people, Steve Powell, said: “Our Guinness World Records sign2sing project is an attempt to break the world record for the most people singing and signing a song at the same time.
“More than 500 schools have signed up so far and we’re delighted Stobhillgate First School is involved in the event.
“News of the event is already spreading rapidly and we are hoping to smash our current record (94,489) and involve more than 150,000 youngsters, while also raising awareness of deafness and the work we are doing at SignHealth.”
The event will also be a fund-raiser for the charity through sponsorship from businesses and a suggested donation of £1 for everyone taking part.
SignHealth has produced a DVD to show children how to sign the song, which has been composed especially for the event, as well as a resource pack for teachers to use within the school curriculum.
