A TALENTED teenage rugby player found the right balance between his sport and studies as he did very well in his GCSE exams.

Callum Chick, who lives in Darras Hall, is part of the Newcastle Falcons academy and earlier this year he received a call-up to the England U16 rugby squad.

And the Ponteland High School student’s 2013 got even better when he discovered that he had achieved an A*, six As, one B, one C and a distinction in business for his GCSEs.

He said: “I’m pleased with these results and I’m absolutely chuffed to get an A*.

“As well as the support from my teachers and parents, the Falcons academy has been really helpful and the coaches gave me and all the other players in the age group some time off to revise for our exams.”

The 16-year-old, who plays in the number eight position, will study chemistry, physics and maths at AS-Level in Gosforth as it is closer to the rugby academy.

His main aim is to become a professional player.
