MORPETH pupils had their day in court in the annual Magistrates’ Mock Trial Competition.

Seven schools in Northumberland, including Morpeth’s Chantry Middle, took part in the challenge at Bedlington, adopting the roles of solicitors, witnesses, magistrates and court staff to present a case.

The competition aims to introduce young people to the legal system in an innovative and exciting way, developing their knowledge and understanding, boosting confidence and improving teamwork and public speaking skills.

The contest is judged by serving magistrates.

Chantry was pipped to first place by the Duke’s Middle School in Alnwick, but youngsters were congratulated for their efforts.
