MOUTH-WATERING meals from Morpeth school students were judged the best in the region at a contest.

Budding chefs aged between 12 and 16 recently gathered at Newcastle College to showcase their cooking skills at the Northumberland/Tyne & Wear final of the Springboard FutureChef competition.

Ellie Morgan from Chantry Middle School and Technology College was not phased by her older competition as she won the event with her lamb cutlets with black pudding mash and red wine reduction followed by apple and pear parcel with vanilla cream.

The 12-year-old will go to Sheffield on February 10 for the north region final.

It was a one-two for Morpeth as Tom Colvin (Newminster Middle School and Technology College) was second with his spicy chicken meal with three different dips and chapatis followed by a layered chocolate mousse.

Lisa Elliott, a subject leader at Chantry, said: “We’re thrilled with Ellie’s and Tom’s achievements.”
