Elmer excitement for first school pupils

There was a colourful visitor to a Morpeth school to highlight an initiative raising funds for St Oswald's Hospice that will run next year similar to the Great North Snowdogs trail.

The schools and not-for-profit youth groups that have sponsored a little Elmer include Stobhillgate First School.

Headteacher Glen Whitehead said: “The children are very excited – each class is going to hold their own event and have their own individual projects around Elmer’s Great North Parade.

“We’re going to be having toy stalls, coffee mornings for parents and other activities to help raise some money for the hospice.

“It fits our ethos perfectly as we value the importance of developing the whole child and making them aware of our social responsibility.”
