Ash tree plan welcomed

THE Government’s management plan for tackling ash dieback has been welcomed by the Northumberland Wildlife Trust (NWT).

Proposals include an emphasis on reducing its spread, developing genetic resistance and increasing the ecological resilience of woodlands.

NWT Head of Conservation Steve Lowe said: “Protecting our ash woodlands by promoting genetic resistance, maintaining movement restrictions, surveying and monitoring signs of dieback and implementing practical field-based work should give them the best chance to adapt and survive.”
