Putting down roots for woods

A HUGE new woodland could be created in Northumberland — if residents can find the ideal site.

The Woodland Trust has launched a campaign to create hundreds of woods across the country in honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next year.

And in addition to the smaller projects, the organisation is planning to make one flagship woodland, with around half a million trees.

However, it is appealing to landowners and the public to identify potential sites and help raise the estimated £5m necessary to make the project a reality.
