Stay green with trees

NORTHUMBERLAND residents using real trees for Christmas are being urged to not let them go to waste.

The county council has published a list of sites where you can bring your tree after you take down the decorations.

All household waste recovery centres will take them and other collection points have been arranged within communities to maximise the number of trees that can be recycled.

These include Morpeth Riverside Leisure Centre, Ponteland Leisure Centre, Ellington Library car park and Pegswood Welfare car park — all between Monday, January 2 and Friday, January 13 — as well as the Cresswell Dunes boatyard car park from January 2 to Tuesday, January 10.

Those who are dropping off a tree are asked to ensure that there is no string or metal still attached.

If you have a garden waste bin, you can cut up your tree and place all pieces less than 10cm in diameter in the bin ready for collection in 2012.
