A CREATIVE piece with an important message has landed a Ponteland High School student a national accolade.

Jolie Ince was one of 12 winners in the annual NASUWT Arts & Minds competition. She received £350 for the school and £50 in Amazon vouchers for herself.

The Year 11 pupil’s entry was inspired by a Beatles song.

TV personality Gok Wan was the guest judge and he presented the prizes at the ceremony in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, London. The winners were also treated to a trip on the London Eye.

Kieran McGrane, head teacher at Ponteland High School, said: “Jolie is a very talented young lady and we are all very proud of what she has achieved.”

The teaching union’s competition promotes race equality and diversity in schools and there are a range of categories for artworks and creative writing.
