Families are spoilt for choice at estate this week

THERE is plenty going on at Wallington in the week ahead.

Bring your blankets on Sunday evening as open-air theatre company Illyria returns to the estate with its version of Gilbert & Sullivan’s popular comic opera The Mikado, featuring wandering minstrels, giggling school girls and the Lord High Executioner.

Tickets for this performance are priced £19 for adults and £9.50 for children. The last admission time is 7.30pm.

Booking is essential – telephone 0844 2491895. For more information, email wallington@nationaltrust.org.uk

Earlier in the day, between 1.30pm and 2.30pm, families can join Wallington’s ranger on a seasonal countryside walk through parts of the estate.

Those taking part are advised to wear sturdy footwear and suitable clothing.

On Saturday, children can play a range of garden games in the courtyard from 11am to 3pm.

The ‘Ranger Experience’ activities on Tuesday enable youngsters to try their hand at being a ranger and help them with their work – from dry stone walling to surveying trees.

The sessions will take place between 11am and noon and from 1.30pm to 2.30pm. Meet at the clocktower.

On Thursday, August 15, join the Countryside Team (11am to 12.30pm or 1.30pm to 3pm) to learn how to make a camp fire, then toast a marshmallow on the flames. There will be a small charge for some activities.
