Our great great grandfather was sentenced in Lancashire in 1829 to transportation to VDL Australia, and arrived in Hobart 1830 after being held on Hulk Euralysas for approximately 12 months.
His final conviction was from Toxteth Park, his prior conviction West Derby.
He has many descendants in Tasmania following a successful life, and died in the 1890s.
We have no definitive prior family history. He inserted Dedman as a middle name for many years, and a story passed down that he may have been brought up for a number of years by an aunt.
There is also a possibility he may have originated from the Northumberland area. The family prior to that may have moved from County Clare.
The original surname was mainly spelt Magee, but variants did occur on official documents.
We would welcome any help and assistance available.
