The main construction work at Morpeth’s new town centre retail offering has now been completed ahead of the late summer opening for three new stores.

Home Bargains, Pets at Home and Next are all now fitting out ready to open their doors to shoppers at the development, which is delivering 40,000 sq ft of retail space in the town centre and creating 100 new jobs.

The company behind the award-winning Sanderson Arcade shopping centre, Dransfield Properties, is delivering the £7million scheme that is transforming one of Morpeth’s key sites – the former Morrisons store in Stanley Terrace.

Pets at Home will open its 8,900 sq ft store on Friday, August 12.

It will house a grooming parlour and veterinary practice, as well as the ground floor retail store.

Next will occupy 20,000 sq ft over two floors. Its fit-out team moved onto the site this week and the new store will open around September 20.

Home Bargains has also started work on its store, which is due to open on August 27.

As well as bringing a new retail line-up to the town, the new development has created the opportunity for The Morpeth Larder and SA Taxis to expand.

The SA Taxis office has been relocated to a new purpose-built office in the car park and the popular Morpeth Larder has also been extended internally, and its new al fresco dining area is now open to diners.

The scheme has also delivered improvements to the town centre car park layout and a new glazed walkway canopy for shoppers to link it with the other town centre stores and facilities.

Managing director of Dransfield Properties, Mark Dransfield, said: “We are delighted to see the fit out teams moving onto the site.

“Morpeth is a fantastic retail destination and we look forward to welcoming three great high street names.”
