Northumberland County Council is reminding residents that the deadline to give their views on proposed fire and rescue service changes is now just over a month away.
The service has to save £500,000 in 2016/17. This is on top of the £1.5million already cut over the last two years as a result of reductions in the authority’s budget by central Government.
If the plans are approved, West Hartford Fire Station will lose a fire engine and the on-call fire appliances at the Ponteland, Seahouses and Wooler stations would be replaced with smaller engines, among other measures.
Senior fire officers will be attending the January area committee meetings as part of the consultation process.
They include the following (all 6pm start) – West: Shaftoe Trust Primary School, Haydon Bridge, on Tuesday; East: Lynemouth Miners’ Welfare Institute on Wednesday; Central: Morpeth Town Hall on Thursday, January 14.
The consultation closes on Monday, February 15. For more information about it, call 0345 6006400 or visit www.northumberland.gov.uk
