A Morpeth first school has replaced its traditional summer fair to inspire and widen its pupils’ experience of the natural world.

For the first time, Abbeyfields First School is holding a country show for the local community.

The event, at the main school site today from 3.15pm to 5.30pm, will feature live music and allow children and visitors, including residents of the neighbouring St Christopher’s House residential home, to get involved in tasks and competitions around growing vegetables, knitting, crocheting, archery, bee-keeping, farming and animal care, natural photography, cooking, making jam and baking.

All proceeds from the show will be invested in Abbeyfields’ Forest School and new playground equipment.
