The party was in full swing at Widdrington Community Centre earlier this month as Joan James celebrated her century.
She has four children, six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great, great-granddaughter, who attended along with almost 100 people. Relatives of Joan travelled to Northumberland from across the UK and Canada.
Born in Bexleyheath on the edge of London, Joan moved to Brighton and met Tommy James, who was in the Royal Artillery.
They got married in 1937 and moved to Stobswood in 1951 as Tommy went back to work at Stobswood Colliery.
They moved to Brighton in 1963 and after reaching retirement age, they returned to Stobswood in 1979.
