Tribute has been paid to the nation’s Armed Forces in a special ceremony in the county.
Serving and veteran members of the forces were honoured as an Armed Forces flag was raised at County Hall in Morpeth on Monday morning to mark the build up to Armed Forces Day.
Members of the public joined councillors, servicemen and women and civic leaders to support the country’s troops past and present at the ceremony.
Coun Kath Nisbet, civic head of Northumberland County Council, said: “Many communities across the United Kingdom will be holding special events and ceremonies to register their deep and enduring gratitude that we as a nation have for all those who have served their country.
“This is a day where we can show our support and respect for our armed forces and veterans, reservists and cadets and of course their families who represent the very best that this country stands for and their outstanding contribution to this country.
“These brave people are putting their lives on the line to keep us safe and to build a better world for our children.
“Let us honour that commitment and show our support by raising the armed forces flag.”
