Four employees at one of Northumberland’s prestigious country hotels have been shortlisted for a series of awards.

Staff at the award-winning Matfen Hall Hotel are in the running for the annual North East Hotel Association Excellence Awards, to be held later this month at the Hilton Newcastle-Gateshead.

Organised by the North East Hotels Association, the industry awards reward individual staff members for their achievements in ten categories, including inspirational leadership and service excellence.

Matfen Hall, which was voted Large Hotel of the Year at the 2015 VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, is the only Northumberland hotel to feature on the shortlist.

Sarah Barber, nominated for Sales Excellence, Carole Crowe, for Leisure Excellence, Leila Reed, for Shooting Star, and Derek Millar, for the Inspirational Leader category, are the quartet all hoping to take awards home at the ceremony on February 25.

Mr Millar has worked within Matfen Hall’s golf department for almost 20 years, and works closely with the hotel’s owner Sir Hugh Blackett and the board of directors. He is regarded as one of the venue’s most competent managers.

Bernard Bloodworth, Managing Director at Matfen Hall Hotel, said: “These awards, quite rightly, honour people whose work is integral to the success of the hotel and the wider industry here in the North East.

“I am delighted that Matfen Hall is representing Northumberland at the awards and to have been shortlisted in four categories.”
