Christmas shoppers can let the bus take the strain in Morpeth.

A free park and ride system is running tomorrow and on Saturday, December 19, to take people straight into the heart of the town.

The service will be running from the County Hall car park to Morpeth Bus Station from 9am to 6pm.

A Chamber of Trade and Sanderson Arcade initiative, the park and ride scheme has been set up to relieve car parking in the town centre and make it as easy as possible for customers to shop in Morpeth over the festive period.

The double decker bus operated by Arriva will pick up from County Hall every half an hour from 9am and arrive at the bus atation 15 minutes later.

A full timetable will be available on the More in Morpeth and Sanderson Arcade websites.

George Williams, chair of Morpeth Chamber of Trade, said, ‘We hope a lot of the residents in Morpeth will use this service, which is being provided free of charge.

“There is a lot happening in Morpeth over Christmas with great shops in the town which we really want people to take advantage of, without having to worry about finding a car parking space.”
