Fun exercises bring generations together
A yoga class for children and a keep fit class for senior citizens in Morpeth came together for a session that both young and old enjoyed.
Town resident Debbie MacAlister teaches yoga at nurseries, first schools and primary schools across the region and she has been teaching the exercises at Goosehill Private Nursery for 12 years.
She recently took a group of three and four-year-olds from the nursery to the church hall at St George’s United Reformed Church on a Monday morning.
A seniors exercise club, run by Debbie’s mum Valerie MacAlister and Sheila Adamson, provides classes at this venue on a Monday morning and afternoon, so both groups had a joint session where they tried each other’s exercises – such as doing yoga movements to story-telling (children) and dance routines (seniors).
The club also has a social side and all those present chatted with each other afterwards.
Debbie said: “Everyone really enjoyed the joint session.
“Both the nursery and members of the keep fit class at St George’s said they would like to do it again at some point.”
