A barbecue is being held at Ponteland Methodist Church in aid of St Oswald’s Hospice in Gosforth.
The event is being spearheaded by Ann Cooper, whose husband Bob died at St Oswald’s in December 2016 following a battle with cancer, with family and friends helping with the organising.
She said: “Many of us within the church have benefited directly from the amazing work that St Oswald’s does and wanted to give something back.
“Bob was looked after by an incredible nursing team during his final days. The staff not only saw to Bob’s needs, but offered support to the whole family and we are eternally grateful to them.
“I thought that a barbecue would be a great way to get all ages involved in a fun event to raise money for a great cause.
“Everyone who I’ve asked to help has been incredibly supportive and helpful – we just need to sell the tickets now.”
As well as the barbecue, there will be a raffle, some children’s games, a tombola, guess the name of the giant monkey, a toddler area, a St Oswald’s stall and music from Robson’s Choice Northumbrian pipers.
The event will go ahead whatever the weather, as there will be a marquee and the church hall can be used if required.
The barbecue will be held in Ponteland Methodist Church’s garden from noon on Sunday, July 8. Everyone is welcome.
Tickets cost £5 and are available from Ann Cooper by telephone on 01661 824347 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Under fives go free.
