LIGHTS Out campaigners David Clark and Bob Robertson have claimed seats on Morpeth Town Council.

Both Independent candidates have been elected to represent the Morpeth North ward, coming second and third behind council stalwart Nic Best.

Mr Clark received 675 votes and Mr Robertson was narrowly ahead with 688.

Mr Best, who secured 794 votes, welcomes a fellow Green Party member to the council as Ron Forster won a seat with 630 votes, taking fifth place just behind Liberal Democrat veteran councillor Les Cassie, with 650 votes.

The result meant that former councillors Graeme Trotter, who was Planning Committee Chairman, and Richard Thompson lost out for the Liberal Democrats.

The three Conservative candidates, David Bawn, who earlier won the Morpeth North county council seat, Nicola Bawn and Johnny Wearmouth also missed out.
