Halloween is a night in the year that young families with children seem to embrace with gusto, and certainly this commercial festival can be an earner for businesses, which sell associated spooky paraphernalia.
However, not everyone greets this evening with the same enthusiasm.
Old and vulnerable residents in the community can be readily perturbed by such unwanted house calls after dark.
In my previous address there was a great system, which simply ruled, “No pumpkin, don’t disturb”. Basically, no pumpkin in the window meant that the household did not invite trick-or-treaters to call. What a sensible system.
I’d say this could be quite welcome if it were to be broadly adopted in Morpeth neighbourhoods and would allow a more harmonious co-existence with those creatures of the night.
