MORPETH’S new £18million health centre is set to open its doors to the public later this month.
The Greystoke and Gas House Lane GP practices will welcome patients at the new facility on the site of a former care home, The Mount, at Haggs Field from Monday, April 22 ,with outpatient, x-ray and other specialist services starting from Tuesday, May 7.
The Morpeth NHS Centre will provide modern healthcare facilities for around 14,000 patients registered at both GP practices.
It also offers the opportunity for integrated working for the staff and patients of Morpeth’s third GP practice, Wellway, as well as closer working with hospital and community colleagues to provide more care closer to people’s homes.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s outpatient, podiatry, physiotherapy, x-ray, speech and language therapy, community nursing, midwifery, dental and child health services will transfer from the cottage hospital to the new centre.
There will be no outpatient services delivered at Morpeth Cottage Hospital after Tuesday, May 7. The Whalton Unit – a specialist inpatient elderly care facility provided by Northumberland Healthcare on the cottage hospital site – will continue as normal.
Dr Alistair Blair, chief clinical and accountable officer of the NHS Northumberland Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “It’s great news that the centre is about to open and it will provide state-of-the-art healthcare services, building upon our commitment to deliver care closer to home.
“This centre will also provide excellent healthcare to people living in Morpeth, over the next 25 years.”
The opening of this facility completes the improvements agreed by the public consultation in the town in 2007.
