A NORTH East health chief has been appointed to lead a new national organisation.
Sir Peter Carr, who is currently Vice-Chairman of NHS North of England, has been confirmed as Chairman of the NHS Trust Development Authority, which will be established next month as part of the Government’s healthcare reforms to help NHS organisations to become foundation trusts.
Sir Peter was Chairman of NHS North East when the region became the first in the country to have all of its NHS trusts awarded foundation status in November 2011.
The status aims to bring decision making and control closer to communities, but trusts have to go through rigorous assessment, including showing they are meeting the needs of the community, managing budgets and have clear plans for the future, to achieve it.
Sir Peter said: “I am delighted to be taking on this role and I am looking forward to working with and alongside NHS trusts throughout the country to deliver high quality, sustainable services.”
