An historic road race is set to make a return next year which organisers hope will help put Morpeth back on the athletics map.
An agreement has been reach for the legendary Morpeth to Newcastle road race to make a return to the calendar.
The race was a permanent fixture on the local running scene for more than a century, and now plans are in place to reboot the event, opening up 26 miles of public roads to club runners, cyclists and families, on Sunday, July 17.
Five-times ‘Morpeth’ winner Mike McLeod, said: “By opening up the M2N to marathon runners, cyclists and children – as well as the club runners – we are ensuring the event has never been more inclusive.
“I was a huge fan of the original ‘Morpeth’ but there’s no point harking back to the past. I want to see the Morpeth To Newcastle name become great again.”
