NEW council housing has been suggested as a possible option to utilise a former village school site, a parish council has been told.
Demolition work at Druridge Bay Middle School is well under way, following its closure in the summer, and the future use of the land is still up for discussion.
Coun Glen Sanderson, ward member for Chevington with Longhorsley, has said he wants residents and councillors to be consulted.
At Monday’s meeting of East Chevington Parish Council, Coun Sanderson told members that there are a number of potential options that have already been suggested, with council housing being one.
He said: “I want councillors and residents to have a say about what happens at the site. The county council is looking at all the options at what the site could be used for and council housing is one of those options.”
Parish council chairman Scott Dickinson said he would back a scheme of that kind.
“If more social housing for the school site was an option, then I would support that,” he said.
After the meeting, Coun Sanderson added: “Personally, I favour council housing and it is currently my favourite option.”
