Here we go again, more housing developments on greenfield sites.
Meanwhile, small, abandoned sites, such as the redundant garage site at the junction of Wansbeck Street and Hillgate in Morpeth, and the rear of the old library, continue to become increasingly derelict and weed-infested.
In the past I have tried contacting both the county planning department and my local councillor, neither of whom have bothered to reply.
Existing properties in and around the town are very difficult to sell and local amenities, such as school places and local jobs, are in short supply.
Developers tell us that it’s ‘not profitable’ to develop small sites.
Maybe, likewise, it’s more profitable for the council to approve large sites?
In the near future our town will become another Cramlington-type development.
