When Mrs May recently indicated an intention to put the subject of fox hunting back on the agenda should the Conservative Government be returned to power, I assumed at the time that this was to appease the more right wing elements of the party prior to the general election.
It occurs to me now that this may have been intended as a sop in advance of when the subject of farming subsidies inevitably rears its head again after the election.
This would be as in “sorry but we will be unable to continue to financially assist the farming industry following our exit from Europe, but I will see if I can allow you people to hunt foxes again if that helps”, or words to that effect.
Just a thought.
