International line-up of concerts for music society's coming season

The next season of Morpeth Music Society's series of concerts will start this week.

The society hosts monthly music nights in the town, attracting some big international names to perform.

Starting the season next week is the Kammerphilharmonie Europa String Ensemble from Cologne.

They will play a variety of music, including Vivaldi, Albinoni, JS Bach, Suk and Nielsen, at Morpeth Methodist Centre on Thursday, October 18, at 7.30pm.

Next in the line-up will be the Engegård String Quartet, who will play Haydn, Greig and Schumann on Thursday, November 8.

In December, Emma Johnson and John Lenehan will play clarinet and piano on Thursday, December 6. Emma Johnson shot to fame as the winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition in 1984.

After Christmas the Chiaroscuro String Quartet, from Russia, Spain, Sweden and France, will be on the bill on Thursday, January 31.

Rachmaninov The Complete Preludes Leon McCawley

There is no concert in February, but on Thursday, March 21, pianist Leon MacCawley will entertain the audience.

The final concert will be on Thursday, April 11, when Jamal Aliyev and Jâms Coleman will play cello and piano.

The concerts all take place at Morpeth Methodist Centre, at 7.30pm.
