TIME is running out for north east villages to apply for a share of £5million of lottery cash.
The Big Lottery Fund’s Village SOS Active competition will award grants of up to £30,000 for projects to breathe new life into rural communities with a population of less than 3,000.
Projects could include new business ventures to safeguard vital amenities or services, or provide training or employment opportunities, such as community food shops, cafes, pubs, farms, bakeries and post offices.
The initiative is part of a wider campaign offering a range of tools and resources to help communities reverse rural decline and revive village life, with business plan templates, an expert advice line and learning events all available.
To apply for a grant, people should fill in a simple online form outlining their idea by Thursday, October 20, and the best suggestions will go forward to develop a full application.
