The lifeboat was launched with four volunteer crew on-board and were quickly on the scene. It was thought that the jet-skier was riding close to the rocks south of Cullercoats Bay when he hit a rock.

With the assistance of members of Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade, RNLI crew helped the casualty from the sea to drier land near the rocks. He had sustaned an open wound on his ankle.

He was then transferred to an ambulance and taken to hospital for treatment. Once the volunteer crew were satisfied that he was in good hands the lifeboat returned to station.

Scott Jones, Helmsman Cullercoats RNLI, said: “The rocks near Culleroats Bay can be dangerous even when hidden by the sea water. Care must be exercised when sailing or jet skiing near to these rocks.”
