Man freed from car after it comes off road and comes to rest on rocks on Northumberland beach

Coastguard Rescue Teams from Berwick and Eyemouth were joined by Northumberland Fire and Rescue and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) and Northumbria Police following the call out to Cocklawburn Beach.
They received the call out to the coastal spot, which is between Scremerston and and Cheswick, at 9.45am yesterday, Wednesday, March 17.

Hide AdNEAS took the driver to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment for abdominal and chest injuries and sent a paramedic crew, two Hazardous Area Response Teams (Hart), a rapid response paramedic and an officer to the scene.
A spokesperson for the Berwick Coastguard Team said: “Once fire and ambulance crews successfully extricated the casualty from the vehicle, Berwick and Eyemouth Coastguard teams assisted with getting the casualty across the rocks, and from the scene to the nearby ambulance.
"An excellent example of multi-agency working, during what was a challenging and unusual rescue.
“We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.”
Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service added: “Our Berwick crew attended an incident earlier today where a car had gone off a cliff face.
