Man named after fatal crash in Northumberland

He can now be identified as Barry Dodd, 58, from the Corbridge area.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “Enquiries into the circumstances around the collision are ongoing and police are continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed the crash – or who was travelling in the area at the time – to come forward by calling 101 quoting log 1121 230321.”

The incident happened at about 8.25pm on Tuesday, March 23, Northumbria Police officers were called to a one-vehicle collision on the B6309 between Stamfordham village and Whittle Dene Ponds.

Emergency services attended and found a green Vauxhall Meriva had come off the road.

The driver, now named as Mr Dodd, was taken to hospital but sadly passed away a short time later.

Sgt Steve Armstrong, of Northumbria Police, said at the time: “Any death on our roads is a tragedy and our thoughts go out to the man’s family at this tragic time.

“We are determined to find out what happened in the moments before the car left the road and are now asking for anyone who was in the area to come forward and assist our investigation.

“If you were driving on the B6309 last night between 8.15pm and 8.30pm, please check your dashcam footage and let us know if you see a green Vauxhall Meriva or anything suspicious.

“Your information – no matter how insignificant you feel it may be – could help give the man’s family the answers they deserve.”

The man’s family have asked that their privacy is respected.
