Mixed fortunes for Morpeth sides at start of the new cricket season
Morpeth 1sts got their season off to a losing start when they faced Alnmouth and Lesbury in the Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League on Saturday..
Morpeth batted first, and with James Sander top-scoring on 22, they were all out for 75 with Nicholas Denton and Ben Oliover doing most of the damage, claiming four wickets apiece.
In reply Alnmouth went on to record a comfortable six wicket victory, posting 80-4, with Tom Vickers on 24 and Russell Hughes on 22.
Morpeth 2nds got their season off to a winning start when they beat Benwell and Walbottle by four wickets.
Harnaik Singh hit 36 and Phil hall 33 as Benwell posted 147-7 in 45 overs.
John Douglas and Adam Lawn each claimed two wickets for Morpeth, who in reply had Harshil Patel hit 60 as they passed their target at 148-6 in the 41st over.
Ponteland opened their season with a heavy 219 run defeat at the hands of Swalwell.
Chris Hewson hit 113 and Lloyd Anderson 74 as Swalwekk posted a big score of 309-4 in 50 overs.
Stuart taylor took 3-42 for Ponteland, who in reply were all out in less than 33 overs for 90, with Jonathan Appleby top scoring on 26.
In the reverse fixture, Ponteland 2nds had a six wicket win over Swalwekk 2nds.
Opener Chris Mawson hit 78 for Swalwell, who went on to record 150 all out, with Ashley parker having a fine spell with the ball to take 6-30.
Parag Chauhan hit 32 and Paul Mcready 29 not out as Ponteland replied with 151-4.
Alnmouth and Lesbury 2nds faced Ashington 2nds, and they went down to a five wicket defeat.
Opener Peter Robinson hit 45 as Alnmouth made 138 all out, with Ian Sharkley and Michael Thewlis taking three wickets apiece. In reply, Ashington posted 142-5 with the bulk of their runs coming from Jack McCarthy on 68 not out and Matthew Potts on 42.
