A doctor is painting the town pink in a fun-packed charity night in memory of his Mum.
Carole Elliott, of Stobhill, died of cancer in August at the age of just 49.
The home-maker, who lived in Morpeth all her life, is sorely missed by her family, but they are determined that her memory will live on, and now they have organised a fund-raising tribute night in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign.
It will include a pink prize tombola, wear-it-pink fancy-dress competition, spot prizes and games, and live music courtesy of accordionist priest Fr Kevin Dorgan, known as Altar Ego, acoustic musician Amber Brown and karaoke duo Anne-Marie Orr and Kelly Devine.
It will be held at the New Hirst and District Social Club, known as The Mortimer, in North Seaton Road, Ashington.
Mrs Elliott’s son, Dr Michael Wilkinson, said: “We’ve had an amazing response, we’ve had to print more tickets because we sold out. We never thought it would be so popular. I’m now hoping we will break the £1,000 mark for the charity.
“I have never done anything like this before, but a lot of people have volunteered their time to help. We’ve had support from friends, family, people we work with and people who go to the club. The support we have had at the club has been amazing. It has donated so much and bought tickets as well.”
Dr Wilkinson will also complete a 5km charity run in Newcastle this weekend to boost the total, and he is auctioning a bottle of the new Jimmy Choo Man fragrance, signed by Game of Thrones star Kit Harington, on eBay after winning it in a Boots competition.
“I think my Mum would be overwhelmed by all of this because she was so humble and I don’t think she realised how special she was to us all,” he said. “I would like to think she would be proud that we are doing something good out of something sad.”
The charity night is on Friday, October 24, at 7pm. Tickets cost £5, with a limited number available on the door. Donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/remember/145197/Carole-Elliott or by texting WEAR49 followed by a space and the amount to donate to 70070.
