The namesake fund was started in memory of Mr Hughes, who lost his life in Aden 50 years ago. He was only 18 at the time and lived in the village with his family.

The Shilbottle Forum decided to try to raise money and the villagers of Shilbottle and Hampeth are now collecting funds to do up the skateboard park.

The music night at the Farriers Arms on Saturday will feature a three-piece band called The Lynch Mob, who perform foot-tapping, good-time music with an Irish theme.

The event will run from 9pm to 11.30pm and donations for the fund will be taken on the night.
