New home for travel and tourism at college
The Kirkley Hall campus will become the new home for Northumberland College travel and tourism students from next month.
The change has been made so those who study the subject courses will be able to take advantage of the many commercial benefits of the campus near Ponteland.
Opportunities include work experience within Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens, weddings, conferences and its outdoor activity centre.
Jen Bell, academy director of land and leisure and head of campus at Kirkley Hall, said: “We look forward to welcoming travel and tourism to the campus.
“A key module for those studying these courses will be visitor attractions, so working with us to help grow our offer here at Kirkley Hall, whilst gaining crucial work experience, will benefit us all.”
Those who study travel and tourism will continue to visit many other leading tourist attractions, develop hands-on skills through work experience and benefit from training in the college’s cabin room, which replicates the inside of a passenger aircraft.
Meanwhile, Northumberland College’s summer enrolment events have got under way at its Kirkley Hall and Ashington campuses.
Young people who are awaiting their GCSE results and have received their A-Level results, along with their parents, can speak to its team of advisers – who are on hand to provide help and support – about the wide range of vocational courses and apprenticeships available.
Higher education courses, which include access to higher education diplomas, are also on offer, as well as PGCEs for those seeking a teaching career in addition to foundation degrees in conjunction with university partners that include Newcastle University.
In addition, applications to the new Northumberland Career College are now open to those aged between 16 to 18, with the first students in September able to access specialisms in land-based and rural tourism.
The summer enrolment events run until Saturday, September 3.
