New series of organ recitals set to begin

A new series of organ recital in Morpeth will start tomorrow, (Friday).

The 2017 organ recital season begins at Morpeth Methodist Church and Centre for the Community with Ian Roberts, Organist and Musical Director of St Nicholas Cathedral, Newcastle.

Mr Roberts took up his post in September last year and has worked in church and cathedral music for most of his life.

He held organ scholarships at Blackburn and Chichester Cathedrals, before working for eight years at Chester Cathedral, first as Assistant Organist, then as Assistant Director of Music.

In 2011 Mr Roberts moved to Sheffield to become Director of Music at St John’s Church, Ranmoor.

He married his wife Kate at Chester Cathedral in 2009, and has two sons Ernest and Arthur.

The recital will take place at 12.30pm. All organ recitals are free, with light refreshments afterwards and the opportunity to chat.
