Thursday, July 5, 2018, marked the 70th birthday of our NHS, and events were happening throughout the country to celebrate remarkable advances in healthcare over the past seven decades.
Keep Our NHS Public North East thanks all of the hardworking and committed NHS staff throughout the region for your care and professionalism.
There is much to be thankful for.
However, in the midst of the balloons and glitter, we also need to keep a clear focus on the massive under-funding from central government, the cash-driven closures of NHS departments and services in the North East driven by local Clinical Commissioning Groups, and the growing privatisation of healthcare throughout the region.
We are in the third and final week of the photographic exhibition How Come We Didn’t Know? Privatisation — The Corporate Takeover Of Our NHS, by Marion Macalpine.
This hard-hitting, national touring exhibition, with additional panels showing NHS privatisation in the North East, is open Monday to Saturday, from 10.30am to 4pm, until Saturday, July 14.
It is free entry at St Thomas’ Church at the Haymarket, Newcastle upon Tyne.
It is a must-see exhibition for all concerned about the future of healthcare in England.
Let’s celebrate 70 years of the NHS, but we need to work together to ensure that it remains accessible to us all for another 70 years and more.
