Residents and visitors to the town were recently treated to the debut performance of Morpeth Surprise Major on the bells of Morpeth Clock Tower.
The full peal feat (5,120 changes to be precise) was accomplished in two hours and 41 minutes in honour of the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Eight ringers from across the North East were involved and it was conducted by Alan Barber.
The challenge was organised by local resident and Morpeth Clock Tower band member Christopher Teasdale, who also rang in the peal.
Residents interested in giving bellringing a try can call Tower Captain Rev Simon White on 01670 517716 for details.
