Police in Morpeth are inviting groups of children to take part in a football tournament.

Officers from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team have organised the Easter Shield five-a-side competition. The tournament for 12 to 14-year-olds will be held at the Riverside Leisure Centre in Newmarket on Monday between 11.45am and 4pm.

There will be trophies for the winners, runners-up and the player of the tournament. All participants will receive a medal.

Morpeth Neighbourhood Inspector Richard Anderson said: “We love organising events like this and the whole day is a great opportunity for us to engage with the kids and give them an opportunity to see their local police officers in a different light.

“We get great support from the council, the Riverside Leisure Centre and local businesses that have provided refreshments.

“We encourage people to come along and look forward to meeting everyone on the day.”

Entrance to the event is free and sign up sheets for the football tournament are available at the leisure centre.
