THE Olympic Torch has arrived in Morpeth.
David Taylor started the town’s leg at the bottom of Whorral Bank and has passed on the torch to Gerda Andries.
The flame will also go along Copper Chare, Newgate Street, Bridge Street and over Telford Bridge to Castle Square and finally to the Mafeking Park roundabout.
The other torchbearers are Stephen Parsons, Jim Alder and David Lowe.
Northumberland County Council and event producer Culture Creative has been working behind the scenes with LOCOG (The London 2012 Organising Committee), community partners and key sponsors to co-ordinate the event across the county.
Coun Neil Bradbury, executive member for culture, leisure and tourism at Northumberland County Council, said: “The buzz and excitement of the torch’s arrival has surpassed all expectations. It really is a momentous few days for our county.
“The Torch Relay has enabled us to put the spotlight on our beautiful county and showcase it on a national and international stage.”
