VISITORS will be encouraged to find more in Morpeth in a townwide treasure hunt.
The initiative is being planned by the Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade to run throughout the summer holidays.
Businesses across the town will be encouraged to sign up by placing ‘clues’ in their windows, with entry forms available from shops.
And as well as a weekly prize draw from the submitted entries, there could be discounts and special offers in individual shops.
Organiser April Atkinson, of La Bodega Tapas Bar, said: “We thought we could have a launch party on July 1 to start a nine-week treasure hunt over the summer. It would be designed to encourage visitors to Morpeth to come into the town and really have a good look around the place. People could also offer some sort of discounts or initiatives to get people to come into their businesses to pick up or drop off the forms.”
The idea was one of several put forward by Ms Atkinson as newly-appointed Chairman of the chamber’s Events Sub-Committee.
Other suggestions included a barbecue, band night and themed cinema evening with fancy dress.
Chamber member Geoff Proudlock said: “It is refreshing to have someone putting some new ideas forward.”
