A group opposing a decision by the county council to move Ponteland Library to the leisure centre has set up an online petition.
Details about the re-location, which is set to take place this spring, were unveiled in November.
The authority says the measure is part of its need to make savings.
Services will be accommodated within the existing creche area and additional space in the wider building will be utilised, and the change will enable residents to access resources seven days a week.
But many people in the area are against the move. They say the areas of the leisure centre that will take on library services are not fit for purpose.
The petition calls on the council to keep the library in the centre of Ponteland and any refurbishment works required should be carried out at the current site off Thornhill Road.
To sign the petition, go to www.change.org/en-GB/petitions and click on the search icon. Typing ‘Ponteland Library’ in the space provided is the final step.
