COUNCIL contact hours will be extended in a trial to improve customer services.
Northumberland County Council’s Customer Contact Centre will open its telephone lines for an extra two hours in the evening to run from 8am to 7pm, Monday to Friday.
Staff currently handle around 28,000 calls every month from people wishing to make payments or access information.
Executive Member for Customer Services Neil Bradbury said: “Whether it is family or work, everyone has different responsibilities in their lives and we understand that for many residents telephoning the council offices during traditional opening hours may not be convenient.”
The number of calls will be logged during the trial to determine whether there is demand to make the extra hours permanent.
To contact the centre call 0845 600 6400.
