A provider of medical services in four Northumberland locations has received the top rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Following an inspection earlier in the year, the recently published report stated that Wellway Medical Group is outstanding in all areas.

The inspectors visited the main surgery in Morpeth and its branch surgeries at Pegswood, Lynemouth and Newbiggin.

They said the group had a clear vision, with quality and safety as its top priority.

Their report also included the following: ‘It is extremely proactive in implementing new clinical guidance for best practice and learning from incidents to identify and address areas for improvement.

‘The practice also demonstrated excellent multidisciplinary team working, liaising with specialist colleagues to ensure patients with complex needs were receiving the best care possible.

‘All of the patients we spoke with were satisfied with the care they received from the practice. Words used to describe the practice included ‘excellent’, ‘nice practice’ and ‘very good’.

‘The practice staff are very proactive in supporting their patients to live healthier lives through health promotion and providing additional support to vulnerable patients to ensure they had access to the same information.’

Wellway Medical Group was also able to demonstrate a reduction in the amount of emergency hospital admissions referrals in over 65s, which meant these people were more likely to be able to be treated by their GP than having to go to hospital.

Senior partner Dr Chris Marr acknowledged the contribution made by all staff towards this achievement.

“We feel very proud to be amongst the highest rated practices in the country,” he said.

“This reflects all the dedication and hard work of Wellway staff over many years and our ethos of ‘best care from a great team’.”
