Moves are under way to get more residents and organisations involved in an annual village event.
Since it was established a few years ago, the Pegswood Village Show has taken place outdoors on the Welfare Field and indoors in the Welfare Hall.
The activities, including competitions, have been organised by Pegswood Community Action (PCA). But at a Your Voice day arranged by the parish council, the group said its small committee for the event has found it difficult to manage all of the tasks involved.
Councillors discussed the matter at a full council meeting and it agreed to help out.
It is also hoping to encourage others to play a part, which would potentially make the show even bigger than it has been in previous years.
Pegswood Parish Council chairman Paul Williams said: “I think we should get involved because it’s an important event for the village. We can help by taking on some of the administration involved with the event and making a financial contribution.
“But I don’t think it would be appropriate to completely take over the organisation of the show. We can be a facilitator and as well as talking with the PCA, we can invite various local organisations and institutions and local residents to get involved.”
Coun Pauline Proud said: “The show organising committee told us that others getting involved will allow them to breathe and focus on particular aspects of the event.”
Council clerk Kevin Cassie said it would be useful to set up a working group so people from outside the council can be members.
He added: “It would be nice for the event to do well financially, but the main goal is to have a show that many residents will enjoy and will benefit local shops and organisations.”
