PARKING : A surprising development

I read with bemusement the announcement from Northumberland County Council Leader Grant Davey that Morpeth will potentially get a new multi-story car park along with a number of other towns in Northumberland.

This is a surprise, I must confess, as we have it in writing from the council just two weeks ago that it had no studies demonstrating a need for additional parking and had no plan to provide any in Morpeth.

Less surprising is the small print in Coun Davey’s statement, which ties the provision of additional parking to the sale of County Hall, and the fact that this was not highlighted to the Morpeth Forum or Morpeth Town Council, so far as I am aware, before being announced.

The announcement comes at a time where the council is about to sell the library car park so what conclusion can you draw?

My own conclusion is that Labour has no genuine plans for our town and it will do and say anything to get County Hall relocated to Ashington.
