THE Labour Party has announced its three candidates to fight next year’s European elections in the North East.

The Party’s current MEP in the region Stephen Hughes is retiring after 30 years’ service in the European Parliament.

Its new candidates fighting for the three North East seats are Judith Kirton-Darling, who lives in Hexham and is a Confederal Secretary of the European TUC, Paul Brannen, a senior manager with a national charity from Newcastle, and Jayne Shotton, an officer for shop workers’ union USDAW, from North Tyneside.
